Between Wareham and Corfe Castle can be found the unique visitor attraction called the Blue Pool, which was once a clay pit. Tiny particles of clay in the water, cause light to defract and the pool to change colour from one minute to the next.
The pool is set in 25 acres of woodland and has been designated an area of Special Scientific Interest, and is home to rare indigenous plants and animals. The lush vegetation around the Pool is inhabited by deer, badgers, squirrels and rabbits, with the rare Green Sand Lizard and Dartford Warbler occassionally being seen. Visitors can enjoy tea and scones in the local tea rooms (c. 1935) and there is also an interesting clay mueum to explore.
